BENOIT ENTE 2022 PULIGNY MONTRACHET TRUFFIERES 1ER CRU

This is certainly Benoît Ente’s flagship, his flagship plot: a superb Clos of nearly one hectare, which he is lucky enough to operate as a monopoly. This exceptional terroir of stratified limestone clearly gives one of the most refined, intense and vibratory expressions that can be found throughout the Puligny-Montrachet finage.

The nose opens with a noble reduction with finely toasted accents, coupled with comforting spices including nutmeg, saffron and juniper berry. Gourmet notes of brioche scented with orange blossom and almond powder delicately caress the nostrils. A more chlorophyll dimension then unfolds, first on lovage, fennel and fresh mint, then on notes of lemongrass. The fruit radiates, pure, juicy and perfectly ripe, around white peach and Comice pear, slightly tangy green plum and pineapple. It’s a delight at all times.
The exceptional quality of the balance of this Clos de la Truffière is confirmed on the palate. The textured yet supple and dynamic start unfolds succulent flavours of white fruit and pulpy stone fruit, which pair beautifully with a more tangy touch of mandarin, grapefruit and passion fruit. The limestone brings to the mid-palate this eye-catching, stimulating tension, this saline vibration that excites the taste buds and whets our appetite. The persistence and purity of the finish is absolutely remarkable. More than a wine, it is an elixir of life, a rejuvenation cure.
