A small, family-owned producer with just 35 hectares of vineyards, Bouza nonetheless sits at the summit of Uruguay’s fast-evolving wine scene, largely on account of its single-vineyard Tannat from its base in the relatively cool climate of Montevideo. The recently developed Pan de Azucar vineyards lie in the even cooler far-east of the country towards the South Atlantic coastline, where a long growing season and plenty of sunshine counter the low temperatures to yield a small-production Riesling in the slatey, minerally image of Germanic renderings, filled out by a touch of red apple fruit.
