Bulleit 95 Rye is one of the whiskeys that brought rye back. Released in 2011, it is distilled to Bulleit’s specifications in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, from a mashbill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley, matured under Bulleit’s control and bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof). It is the definition of the modern American rye style and a fixture on every cocktail bar’s back bar.
Breaking Bourbon described strawberry cream, dill, pine and fresh muddled mint on the nose, orange peel, green tea, graham cracker and minty pine with mild molasses and brown sugar on the palate, and a dry finish of oak, leather, mild spice and pepper, summing it up as a straightforward everyday rye. That is the point: it makes a crisp Manhattan, a proper Sazerac and a spicy Old Fashioned at a price that lets you pour freely.
