Champagne Le Mesnil Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV 1.5L Magnum
A seductive Blanc de Blancs that doubles as the secret base wine behind some of Champagne’s most famous names.
Grape Varietals & Region: 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru plots in the Cte des Blancs, Champagne, France, planted by over 500 growers on the prestigious chalk slopes of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of 17 Grand Crus in Champagne.
Taste Profile: Pours beautifully, boasting an excellent white frothy mousse with good hold, followed by a straw, pale gold base wine and a very fine, persistently beading bead. Aromatically, a classic Champagne sniff of yeasty, baked bread notes followed by brioche and a hint of citrus. The palate is surprisingly full and rich for a Blanc de Blancs, with mouth-filling flavours of yeast lees, baked bread, cashew and biscuit, a clean finish, creamy texture and excellent length.
Winemaking Process: As a non-vintage cuve, this Blanc de Blancs blends multiple harvests, aged sur lie before disgorgement using the traditional mthode champenoise.
Winemaker: Champagne Le Mesnil was founded in 1937 in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, one of just 17 Grand Crus in Champagne, where east-facing vineyards over a base of chalk give the Chardonnay grape excellent hydric qualities and ideal exposure to reach its full potential. Today the house is a major supplier of base wines (vin clair) to some of Champagne’s most prestigious names, including Krug, Salon, Mot & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot and Taittinger, while also producing its own cuves from Grand Cru plots farmed by over 500 growers on the celebrated chalk slopes of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
