A serious, structured Pomerol, the 2023 Château La Croix De Gay offers up loads of red and black fruits, flowers, spicy wood, and chocolate on the nose. It’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, with a ripe, rounded mouthfeel, velvety tannins, and a great finish. Based on 93% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc and aged 16 months in 45% new French oak, it’s beautifully done and well worth seeking out. I continue to think Pomerol was one of the most successful appellations in the vintage, and this will cruise in cold cellars over the coming two decades. Drink 2026-2046.
