Fernet-Branca is a 750ml, 78-proof Italian amaro made in Milan by Fratelli Branca since 1845, and the world’s definitive fernet. The secret recipe blends 27 herbs and spices from five continents, including gentian, myrrh, saffron, chamomile and aloe, and the liqueur rests in oak for a year before bottling.
It is famously intense: deeply bitter, minty and herbal with a warming, medicinal edge and a long finish. Sip it neat as a digestif, pour it over ice, take it as the bartender’s handshake shot, mix a Fernet and Coke the Argentine way, or use a splash in a Toronto or Hanky Panky.
