Glenglassaugh Revival marked the rebirth of a coastal Highland distillery founded in 1875 at Portsoy on the Moray Firth, closed in 1986 and brought back from the dead in 2008. Revival was the first whisky released from the new spirit, and after a spell under Billy Walker’s BenRiach group the distillery now belongs to Brown-Forman, with Dr. Rachel Barrie as master blender.
Matured in ex-red wine and fresh bourbon casks and finished in sherry casks, then bottled at 92 proof, Revival shows a rustic, characterful nose of wood smoke, wet stone and malt, then a palate of cinnamon, raisin, orange peel and oak, finishing warm and gently sweet. Drinkhacker graded it a B and praised its honest, coastal character. A young, lively Highland malt with a great story and a fair price.
