Glengoyne 18 Year Old is the sherried heart of the range from the Highland distillery founded in 1833 at the foot of Dumgoyne hill, famous for the slowest distillation in Scotland and a total absence of peat. Owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, Glengoyne spends heavily on hand-selected sherry casks, and the 18 Year is drawn half from first-fill sherry wood, European and American oak, and half from refill casks.
Bottled at 86 proof, it offers citrus peel, hazelnut, grapefruit, sandalwood and cedar on the nose, then a palate of peppery spice, lime, cedar wood, hazelnut, walnut, dark chocolate and blackcurrant, finishing with zesty spice and lingering cedar warmth. Elegant, nutty and dry rather than syrupy, it is a sherried malt for drinkers who find heavier sherry bombs too much, and a classic 18-year gift.
