High West Yippee Ki-Yay is High West’s Double Rye with a twist: after its initial aging, the blended rye is finished in French oak barrels that previously held Qupé Syrah and Vya vermouth, two wine casks that turn a spicy rye into a fruity, floral sipper. Made at High West Distillery in Park City, Utah, it blends ryes aged from two to sixteen years and is bottled at 92 proof.
The name comes from the classic cowboy exclamation, and the label reproduces a historic poster from the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. High West’s original pitch was an all-natural, not-too-sweet alternative to flavored whiskey, and the wine finish does the job: The Whiskey Wash describes a blushing rose-gold color, sweet dried fruit and flower fields on the nose with caramel and buttered popcorn, and chocolate-covered tangerine, dried fruit, nuts and cherry-pie sweetness on the palate balanced by dark-chocolate bitterness.
