Hou Hou Shu Rosé is a pink sparkling sake from Marumoto Shuzo in Okayama Prefecture, the brewery that pioneered sparkling sake in Japan and one of the few that grows its own rice. This rosé version gets its soft blush color and gentle floral aroma from an infusion of natural rose petals, and at just 6% ABV it drinks like a delicate, slightly sweet sparkling wine.
It is lightly effervescent with a balance of subtle sweetness and gentle tartness and a clean, refreshing finish. Serve it well chilled in a flute as an aperitif, a brunch pour, or a celebratory toast, and pair it with fruit, light desserts, or sushi. The pretty 300 ml bottle makes it an easy gift, a bridal-shower favorite, and a fun introduction to sake for anyone who loves bubbles.
