The Linkwood Distillery was established in 1821, but only started production in 1824. Owner Peter Brown was the manager of the Linkwood Estate and wisely kept his nose clean until the 1823 Excise Act was on the stature book. The distillery was rebuilt in 1874 and was run as an independent distillery up until 1932 where is joined DCL, now Diageo. It has remained in production ever since, with regular upgrades taking place, most significantly in 1972 when a new distillery was built opposite the old buildings. The owners ran both distilleries until 1985 when the original distillery was used as an experimental site. The capacity of the distillery is now around 5.5 million litres per annum.
North Star Spirits is an independent bottler based in Glasgow, Scotland. They pride themselves on bottling the finest single malt Scotch whisky, blended whisky and blended malt Scotch whisky. Producing artisan single cask whisky from various regions of Scotland as well as bottling rums, gins and Bourbon whiskey. All products are small batch, bottled at cask strength.
This independently bottled Linkwood was distilled in 2012 and matured for 10 years in a single Oloroso Sherry Hogshead. Bottled in 2023 at 53.5% abv with only 310 bottles available.
Our Tasting Notes
Nose: Summer berries and dark chocolate Lion Bars.
Palate: Tart at first, stewed rhubarb and apple, creamy vanilla custard, freshly baked bread.
Finish: Medium to long with icing sugar, vanilla sponge and dark chocolate.
