From Maison Park — the modern brand of Distillerie Tessendier, a family house established in 1880 in Cognac — this single-cru cognac is composed of 100% Borderies eaux-de-vie from the Tessendier family estate in the smallest and most prized growing region of Cognac. Mizunara is a rare variety of Japanese oak used to create barrels mostly employed for aging Japanese whiskies; here, new whole Mizunara casks purchased directly from Japan give the cognac a distinctive finish of exotic spice, incense, and sandalwood. The 44% limited edition is aged 12 years in total: 10 months in new Limousin oak, 11 years in used French oak casks, then a final 9 months in Mizunara.
Color: Warm amber with golden reflections.
Nose: Fresh apricot, fig, and plum with white pepper, peach blossom, and nutmeg; the Borderies floral sweetness lifted by exotic incense notes from the Mizunara oak.
Palate: Soft and round — fruit and spice notes of cinnamon and clove, sweet tobacco and crème pâtissière, with pineapple and tropical fruit leading to ginger and white pepper sparks.
Finish: Long and layered, with lingering floral notes, creamy sweetness, and gentle woodiness; fresh fig and bitter sage on the exhale.
Awards: Gold Medal, San Francisco World Spirits Competition; 93 Points, VinePair; 92 Points, Wine Enthusiast.
