Rosewood Estate The Looking Glass 2022

A honeybee farmer’s family built this Bordeaux-style blend after a honeymoon promise in Niagara Falls.

Grape Varietals & Region: A Bordeaux-style blend of 34% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 8% Malbec and 4% Petit Verdot, from the Renaceau, Blackjack and Emerald Shore vineyards on the Beamsville Bench, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada.

Taste Profile: Ripe red currant and strawberries open the nose, weaving into notes of cocoa, dried herbs and fresh earth. Delectably dry with crisp acidity and velvety tannins, the palate carries succulent raspberry and blackberry flavours layered with black plum, vanilla bean and baking spice.

Winemaking Process: The wine undergoes wild fermentation with non-select yeasts, then ages 15 months in neutral French oak barrels before bottling without fining or filtering.

Winemaker: Rosewood Estate traces back to R.W. Roman’s teenage passion for beekeeping in Ukraine, carried to Canada and passed down to his son Eugene. On his honeymoon in Niagara Falls, Eugene promised his wife Renata they would one day build a winery together; in 2000 he bought 40 acres on the Beamsville Bench and planted the Renaceau Vineyard, named for her. The winery opened in 2003 and became the Niagara Peninsula’s first combined winery and honey wine producer, winning gold medals for its Pinot Gris and Merlot in its first vintage in 2006.
