A blend of very special aged Scotch grain whiskies, selected from several different distilleries, each barrel chosen for its distinctive & memorable characteristics. While others blend to produce year-in, year-out consistency, each edition of THE EXCEPTIONAL GRAIN will offer a Whisky that is authentically individual, possessed of its own qualitative and stylistic distinction. We believe that, with this inaugural edition, we have achieved the perfect balance necessary to be named THE EXCEPTIONAL GRAIN by Sutcliffe & Son… the nuance and elegance of great grain coupled with depth and structure achieved through gentle yet vigilant aging. “On the nose, a faint of green apples appear and softly caresses the nostrils, while on the palate, honey rides on the tongue in the beginning and finish line as sherry and spice linger mid-palate. The finish is incredibly long and moves in a “de capo al fine” movement, where once one thinks the ending to a song is just about to halt it continues to repeat another measure before it hits the final double-bar ending. Kettle corn kicks in that eventually leads to citrus and crushed blueberries. Then, the sweetness evaporates and I am left with almond skins on my tongue. During the second movement, the mouthfeel and flavor get completely bone dry, but on the 3rd try, I am greeted with floral tones-rose petals to be exact-that linger to fondant, cream and vanilla. This is sourced from 8 year old Loch Lomand Distillery, 13 Year North British Distillery and 30 year old Carsebridge Distillery.” – Linh Do
