Town Branch Rye Whiskey comes from Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. in Lexington, Kentucky, the Alltech-owned operation that was the first new distillery to open in Lexington in more than a century and a stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Named for the creek that runs beneath downtown Lexington, Town Branch makes its rye with an unusually malt-heavy mash bill of 55% rye, 30% corn and 15% malted barley, and bottles it at 100 proof.
The Whiskey Wash rated it 8 out of 10 and called it the reviewer’s favorite Town Branch expression, with an auburn color, a very earthy, floral nose with a hint of brine and spicy notes of jasmine and sage, and a palate that balances sweet and spicy, recommending it neat or on the rocks and alongside apple pie or grilled steak.
